Administrative Update:

I have been thinking a lot about what makes a great student and this discussion took place today in our classes as Citizen of the Week was being done. I gave students an opportunity to express ideas that they think make a good student and then I added my own thoughts, when needed.

It was nice to hear students have similar if not identical thoughts about what it takes to be successful in school.

I was trying to add to the discussion about forming these characteristics as habits throughout their lives. It is much easier to learn and perfect the habits now rather than trying to learn how to do these things later in life. If I am on time now, I learn habits to be on time everywhere I go. If I am late now, it will probably be harder for me to learn how to be on time later in life because I formed the habit of not being on time when I was younger.

If I turn in all my assignments when they are due, I develop the habit to get things done by deadlines. This will be something they will do the rest of their lives when they have jobs. If we can create positive habits now, it will benefit them in the long run.

In general, I was trying to express the importance of learning these things in their youth and to create positive habits for the rest of their lives. I tried to impress on them the ease with which things can be done if we learn these things when we are young. Overall, we had good discussions about a variety of characteristics that will help them create positive habits for the future.

Have a great weekend!!!

Be sure to continue to have an “Attitude of Gratitude”
