Lottery Process

  • The name of each prospective student is written on or affixed to a card. A letter indicating order of preference is written on each card (see below). The selection procedure will be conducted one grade level at a time. All cards, regardless of preference, are placed in a container one grade level at a time. Each card is selected one at a time by a third party who is not affiliated with Taylor’s Crossing Public Charter School (TCPCS). This person will pass the card to another individual who writes a number (indicating the order drawn) on each card. After all cards have been selected for each grade, then the cards shall be sorted for each grade level in accordance with the following ranking below:

          The letters are as follows:

1. A = returning students

2. B = children of founders/full-time employees (not to exceed 10% of the student population)

3. C1 = siblings of students currently enrolled at TCPCS for more than 45 school days prior to the lottery deadline

4. C2 = siblings of students currently enrolled at TCPCS less than 45 school days prior to the lottery deadline.

5. D = applicants who reside within TCPCS attendance boundaries

6. E = applicants who reside outside TCPCS attendance boundaries

  • After the cards have been drawn and sorted for all grade levels, the names shall by transferred by grade level, and in such order as preferences apply and the number assigned when drawn, to the final selection list.
  •
  • Final Selection List: The names of the persons in the highest order on the final selection list shall have the highest priority for admission to TCPCS in that grade, and shall be offered admission to school in such grade until all seats for that grade are filled.
  •
  • All students in each grade who are not selected to attend TCPCS will be placed on the waiting list. Any seat that is vacated during the school year 2 weeks prior to the end of the third quarter will be offered to the next eligible student on the current wait list. New students must start before the end of the third quarter.
  •
  • Parents/guardians will have 48 hours to accept or decline the position. Registration paperwork which includes transcript, report card, birth certificate, immunizations, and proof of residency must be completed within 7 calendar days of the offer in order to keep the position. All students in grades K-12 and their parent(s)/guardian(s) must schedule and attend an interview with Administration or attend a new parent/student orientation in order to finalize registration within 14 days after the offer date.
  •
  • Sibling preference is given to students currently on the waitlist in priority D or E once their sibling has completed registration and orientation, and will be placed at the bottom of the sibling waitlist (C3). Students in grades 7-12 must be enrolled at TCPCS for 45 school days before the sibling preference is given to their siblings on the waitlist. Sibling preference will be reversed if the original enrolled sibling dis-enrolls.
  •
  • Students who voluntarily dis-enroll from TCPCS  for any reason other than relocating out of TCPCS attendance boundaries and later seek to re-enroll will not receive any type of sibling preference for 12 months after their dis-enrollment date.

  • Students who are expelled, or who voluntarily withdraw under threat of expulsion, must meet with the board to have their request for application reviewed and either approved or denied.
