School Safety

Posted Date: 09/26/2022

To the Parents and Guardians of Taylor’s Crossing Public Charter School,

On Wednesday, September 7th at the regularly scheduled board meeting, administration presented an outline of our school safety to the parents in attendance. We discussed many of the modifications we have made to improve the safety of our students and staff here at Taylor’s Crossing. We had some great input from parents and had positive discussions about steps we can take to improve the overall safety of our school.

When talking about safety, we want to make sure everyone understands that it includes physical well-being as well as social-emotional and the well-being of ones’ health. I think we have done our best to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 over the past few years and although not fool-proof, I think we really were able to reduce the spread of what could have been a difficult situation. We know everyone was not able to go through unscathed and we sympathize with those affected, but we hope that steps we took and continue to take help reduce those risks. I want to publically thank Mary Lyn Newell, Rachel Riles, Teresa Kolsen and Jamie Toop in the front office who were responsible for the purchasing of supplies and recording the numerous people absent as well as tracking all the Dr.’s notes, etc. Their work has been a huge part of the success of keeping our students safe.

Attached, you will find a summary of the protocols we will be training our students and staff in regard to emergency situations that may arise at our school. These protocols give you, the parent, an idea of how we will practice and under what circumstances these protocols will be put into effect. We understand that these protocols are not all-encompassing, but we truly believe these few actions will help reduce the concerns of parents, should an emergency at Taylor’s Crossing occur.

The number one job of what we, as a school, need to do, is make sure our parents/guardians are informed of any situations that may arise through the course of the day. We hope you trust us to make the decisions necessary to ensure everyone’s safety at all times. We will communicate any and all circumstances that occur as quickly and efficiently as we can. We ask for your understanding as we are limited to a degree about the amount of information we can give regarding certain circumstances, but we hope you understand the level to which we want to maintain the privacy and dignity of all our staff and students. We will continue to update, improve, practice and re-evaluate all these situations so that our staff and students know how to react when emergency situations arise.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to me via phone or email.

Thank you for your time,
